How to Prepare for a Job Interview

Tips for Job Interview Prep

There is no denying the fact that the job interview process can be challenging for most candidates. After months of searching and applying for jobs, you finally get the opportunity to meet a hiring company face-to-face. While this progress is obviously good, it can also prove to be stressful when you must prep for the interview.

Mac & Fulton Talent Partners put together some interview prep criteria to help you on your way to landing your dream job. By studying these principles, you will present yourself in the best light possible to the interviewer. Needless to say, it would be a huge shame if you are a great fit for a job but missed the opportunity because of a blown interview.

Do Your Homework on the Company  job interview

Before you go in for your interview, be sure to visit the company’s website and study it thoroughly. When on the website, take a look at the “About Us” page to learn about the history of the company, as well as important team members like Executives. If you really want to impress the interviewer, you should read their Mission Statement to get a grasp of their values. You will leave a lasting impression by mentioning these values at the interview.

Study the Job Description

During the job search, it’s all-too-easy to apply for random jobs without really understanding how well-suited you are for the positions. However, when you get to the interview phase, be sure to take a pause and review the job description in more detail. Even more, you should critically assess your background and related your experience to specific bullet points on the job description. When interview time arrives, you can paint a compelling narrative of your qualifications.

Be Prepared to Answer Tough Questions

Tough questions in job interviews can truly be “make or break” moments. For example, if you have gaps on your resume, or you were fired from a past job, be prepared to discuss the situations in a thoughtful, confident fashion. For gaps in employment, simply explain why you were not working for a while – family commitments are legitimate excuses. If you were fired from a past job, explain why while remaining respectful of your past employer.

Refresh on Work History and Education

Many people don’t think to do it, but it’s a good idea to read over your own resume to brush up on relevant points. This past experience is particularly important if it relates to the new job you are applying for. However, you must be able to accurately describe how your experience qualifies you for the position. In the end, this process will help you build confidence and give you better odds of landing your dream job
