Director of Operations (M&F Talent)

M&F Talent has a client in the hydroponic nutrients space that is looking to hire a new Director of Operations to manage multiple warehouse operations and third-party logistics (3PL) providers both in the US and abroad. as well as the company’s manufacturing site in Sacramento. This is a senior-level management position that will be based in Sacramento, CA.

  • Spearheads protection and access control policies and coordinates safety measures.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local agencies (e.g., DHS, OSHA, EPA) by monitoring operational performance and making sure corrective action plans are followed.
  • Plays a leading role in compiling company budget and growth strategy.
  • Provides overall leadership to the warehousing group, manufacturing group, and 3PLs.
  • Plans and develops turnkey operations and Warehouse Management.
  • Oversees production, distribution, warehousing, and shipping.
  • Meets warehouse and manufacturing operations by forecasting requirements, preparing proper budgets, analyzing costs, and scheduling expenditures.
  • Develops warehouse operations systems by determining product handling and storage.
  • Manages operations by stock control and inventory management.
  • Analyzes process workflows and implements changes.
  • Resolves bottlenecks in the supply chain.
  • Functions as key decision maker for Operations and Warehouse Management.
  • Defines performance metrics for measurement comparison and evaluation of major supply chain factors such as production, cost, and quality.
  • Directs inbound and outbound shipments of raw materials and finished goods.
  • Analyzes raw material and finished goods inventories to understand how to improve production efficiency, increase inventory turns, reduce waste, and optimize customer service.
  • Coordinates with Management to ensure efficient distribution and flow of materials to adequately satisfy customer demand.
  • Adjusts daily work schedules as needed to meet production requirements.
  • Establishes and implements improvement programs.
  • Oversees and directs all aspects of material planning, inventory control, storage, shipping, receiving, and disposal.
  • Prepares and implements quality plans based on customer service standards.
  • Drives and leads continuous improvement of the production, delivery, and material handling processes and procedures.
  • Maximizes the performance of the operation by directing daily activities.
  • Properly designs warehouse to maximize the flow of goods.
  • Handles equipment design efficiently from installation to calibration and operation.
  • Evaluates all available internal and external technologies including manufacturing equipment and materials.
  • Builds a strategy for manufacturing and ensures proper resources to support that strategy.
  • Assures a risk management approach that achieves an acceptable risk-benefit balance to quality, compliance, and business objectives.
  • Supports the production line with continuous improvements, including line layout and material replenish.
  • Selects and implements appropriate technologies that result in lower manufacturing cost, lower process variability, and higher manufacturing capability.
  • Creates and implements operating procedures.
  • Performs other tasks as necessary.


  • BA/BS degree in Business Administration, Logistics, or Supply Chain.  Desirable: MBA. director of operations
  • 10+ years of warehouse management experience and managing Manufacturing sites required.
  • Thorough Logistics and 3PL experience.
  • Strong background in Production and Warehouse Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Deep experience in cost control.
  • Proven ability to implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in any or all of the following is strongly preferred: Six Sigma, Kaizen, ISO 9000, Lean Manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience with warehouse management software and databases.
  • Strong Purchasing, Cost Analysis, and Budgeting experience.
  • Understands Statistical Process and Quality Control.
  • Advanced MS Suite skills in addition to industry-related software such as ERP systems.
  • Knows NetSuite and other ERPs.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Must be able to provide evidence of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough understanding of operations and warehouse procedures.
  • Extremely organized and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Deep analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.
